Hot pursuit by the bay: A DTM seaside spectacle
7/12/18 / DTM / Warm-Up
This weekend, July 14-15 2018, DTM driver Mike “Rocky” Rockenfeller will race on the Zandvoort Circuit in the Netherlands. He has already celebrated a series of successes on the Dutch coastal track – just a stone’s throw away from the rough waters of the North Sea.
Top-notch touring car racing meets challenging coastal circuit: Having demonstrated its competence in racing in 2018, Schaeffler is now taking to the Dutch seaside. With races number nine and ten coming up this weekend, the DTM event will mark the season’s midpoint. And it will be no ordinary race, as the circuit is special on many levels: Opened in 1948, the Zandvoort Circuit is one of Europe’s oldest permanent race tracks. Located just a stone's throw away from the North Sea, it features multiple high-speed sections, but also tight bends and tricky corners.
“Rocky”: Schaeffler’s top-scoring pilot
Schaeffler brand ambassador Mike Rockenfeller and his Schaeffler Audi RS 5 DTM will start the race as the top-scoring Audi driver. The pro-racer has fond memories of the Netherlands event: He has celebrated two of his five DTM victories on the 4.307-kilometer track. The course takes both drivers and cars to their limits: With the grip level varying from lap to lap, Rocky will have to watch out for wind gusts and anticipate sand being blown across the track. As DTM drivers race between sand dunes from bay to bay, the event provides a real beach feeling for fans and spectators – combined with a unique motor racing experience.
A long DTM tradition
Schaeffler and its product brands have supported drivers and teams with know-how in motorsport and technology right from the start of the DTM. Since 2011, the technology group has been giving its name to the Schaeffler Audi, celebrating major successes including two title wins. In the DTM, cars with internal combustion engines have traditionally been used. With the help of innovative technologies and products, Schaeffler is working to make IC engines more efficient and fit for the mobility for tomorrow.
