The sky is the limit: Formula E to race at 2,310 meters altitude

It’s the largest Spanish-speaking metropolis in the world – and it’s where Formula E is taking its next race: On February 16, the all-electric series travels to Mexico City for its season’s fourth tournament. Currently on a winning streak, team Audi Sport ABT and Daniel Abt are stoked to get started.

The Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler team will race on the plateau of Latin America’s biggest metropolis with the most successful car of the current season so far. Equipped with Schaeffler technology, Daniel Abt most recently came in third in Santiago de Chile with his Audi e-tron FE05, securing the team’s first spot on the podium. He also clocked the fastest race lap of the season, further underpinning the squad’s upward trend. Sam Bird from Team Envision Virgin Racing – which is fielding another two Audi e-tron FE05 cars in 2018/2019 – scored the electric car’s first victory in Chile this season.

Mexico City: A sure road to success?
Formula E is traveling to Autódromo Hermano Rodríguez for the fourth time since 2015. The modified Formula E circuit, shortened to 2.093 kilometers, is the only permanent race track on the Formula One calendar. For Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler, racing at the circuit has been rewarded with success throughout the past two years. In 2017, Lucas di Grassi won the race despite a collision and an additional pit stop including an exchange of the rear wing. And in 2018, Daniel Abt celebrated his first-ever Formula E triumph in Mexico’s capital, marking the first victory of a German driver in the all-electric racing category.

Schaeffler in Formula E
Schaeffler is one of the co-founders and one of the most notable and successful players in Formula E. In the 2016/2017 season, Team Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler won the drivers’ title (Lucas di Grassi) and in the following season, it won the teams’ title (Lucas di Grassi/Daniel Abt). Schaeffler has been contributing its know-how to the development of the powertrain since 2015. In doing so, the company demonstrates its expertise in forward-thinking technologies and presents ideas for sustainable mobility for tomorrow in the innovative electric racing series.

New technology
Formula E is entering a new era. The most conspicuous innovation for this season is that every driver has only one race car. The second-generation cars mark the end of the mid-race car swaps previously required as the battery capacity is now sufficient for the entire race. The cars’ futuristic design without a rear wing and the Halo protection system above the cockpit are also new.
